What people are saying about our programs…

Kara and the team at EMDR Education & Training Center are fantastic! They bring a wealth of experience and the training thoroughly covers all 8 phases of EMDR and provides great feedback throughout the consultation process. Highly recommend them for EMDR training and consultation!

Annia P, LPC

Kara and her team are fantastic!! I learned so much in the basic training. I especially loved the format of practicum and consult, and feedback was constructive and helpful to further my learning and growth as a therapist. I left feeling confident in my ability to apply what I learned. I can’t recommend this enough.

Jasmine W, LCPC

I was very impressed with EMDR Education and Training Center’s basic training! It was incredibly comprehensive with a great mix of engaging lecture and opportunities to practice. It was also grounded in antiracism and multiculturalism. I learned so much that has transformed my therapeutic practice with all of my clients.

Ruth T, LPC

FAQs

Does the EETC four weekend training cover part 1 & part 2 of the Basic Training in EMDR?

Yes! EETC’s Basic Training in EMDR Therapy is approved by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and, in actuality, provides more hours of lecture and practice, with additional training exercises, than the historic ‘part 1’ & ‘part 2’ approach.

EMDRIA sets minimum standards for the amount of lecture (20 hours), practice (20 hours), and consultation (10 hours). It is up to each provider to propose a training model and structure to meet EMDRIA standards. At EETC, we exceed standards and offer a comprehensive training experience.

What is the structure of the training schedule?

Basic Training with EMDR Education and Training Center is offered as a series of four, two-day modules scheduled over a 6-12 week period. One benefit of this model is that is gives participants adequate time between training modules to implement what they have learned with their actual clients. Participants then receive consultation on their clinical work at the start of each training module. This learn-implement-review format greatly enriches learning outcomes and the overall training experience.

For an overview of EETC’s training model, look at the Curriculum Overview portion of this page. If you have additional questions, send us an email or give us a call; we love sharing about our training program!

What if I have a scheduling conflict for the 8-day training?

The Basic Training in EMDR Therapy provided by EETC is a sequential process which builds progressively on learning experiences over each of the eight days of training.

The program consists of more than 50% experiential learning activities through supervised group and partner practice exercises and group consultation sessions, making it impossible to miss one full day or a module.

Further, EMDRIA requirements state that participants must attend all training days and actively participate in all supervised practice exercises and group consultation sessions in order to receive a certificate of completion for this training. Similarly, CE granting organizations require participation and completion of all program activities to earn credit.

We recognize that holding our training over four two-day modules may pose scheduling challenges for some. However, we believe that the progressive and sequential model of training provided by EETC provides a superior program of professional development and is well worth the investment!

I am an Associate who wants to register. Does my supervisor need to be EMDR Trained?

All EETC program participants need to be working in a clinical setting to be able to practice the skills learned in the EMDR Therapy Basic Training. If you are not yet licensed, your supervisor need not be trained in EMDR Therapy, but must be supportive of your using EMDR Therapy with clients with post-traumatic stress and related syndromes such as phobias, panic attacks and symptoms of complex PTSD.

I took EMDR Training years ago but have seldom used it. Can I review the training?

Absolutely! If you are already trained in EMDR Therapy and want to review the training to strengthen your understanding and skills, we welcome you!

Participants who qualify as ‘reviewers’ can earn 10 group hours toward EMDRIA Certification. Reviewers can also elect to purchase continuing education credits for the training.

The reviewer track is open to licensed mental health professionals who meet eligibility criteria and who provide documentation of having completed any EMDRIA Approved Basic Training in EMDR Therapy.

Is Consultation included in the Basic Training schedule and tuition?

This is a great question and an important issue to consider. The short answer is — Yes!

Consider this: all EMDRIA approved providers of basic training in EMDR Therapy are required to provide at least 10 hours of consultation; however, some providers of basic training do not
include the cost of all 10 required hours of consultation in their listed tuition. Furthermore, most providers do not include these 10 hours in the standard training schedule, but instead require participants to attend separately scheduled consultation sessions or find a consultant
on their own, and schedule and pay for their consultation sessions privately.

At EMDR Education and Training Center, we take a more inclusive and effective approach. With us, the cost of all required hours of consultation is included in the tuition, and the 10.5 hours of consultation are integrated into the training schedule on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th modules.

Will I be Certified in EMDR when I complete the Basic Training?

Completing the Basic Training in EMDR Therapy at EETC is the first step. Upon successful completion of our Basic Training program, participants are considered “trained in EMDR Therapy”.

Licensed mental health professionals are eligible for full clinical membership in EMDRIA. Pre-licensed Associates are eligible for associate membership and can upgrade to full membership upon licensure.

After completing Basic Training, clinicians can then work toward EMDRIA Certification in EMDR Therapy.

Most of my clients have complex, co-occurring conditions. Can I learn EMDR Therapy with them?

Yes! The Basic Training at EETC builds the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for participants to integrate EMDR Therapy into their actual day-to-day clinical practice and real world, complex cases.

The Basic Training curriculum at EETC is organized to address the fact that most clinicians see relatively few cases of single incident trauma and, instead, see mostly complex cases with co-occurring conditions.

To address this, the first module of EETC’s Basic Training in EMDR Therapy focuses on the use of methods of stabilization and readiness assessment for EMDR memory reprocessing. The integrated approach to treatment planning and target sequencing taught in our Basic
Training strengthens participants’ ability to organize work with clients, whether they are ready for EMDR reprocessing or not.

In the second and third modules, participants learn and practice basic and intermediate procedures for EMDR reprocessing suitable for cases of PTSD, partial PTSD and related conditions.

During the fourth module, participants are introduced to a number of advanced EMDR Therapy approaches suitable for complex and co-occurring conditions.

Can I enroll if I don’t currently have a caseload?

To participate in the training, you will need a client to integrate EMDR therapy with between training modules. This work will form the basis of consultation homework to be reviewed during modules 2, 3, and 4 of the Basic Training.

If you do not currently have an active caseload, you can find a volunteer client to work with over the course of the training — a colleague, peer, or someone ‘once removed’ from your inner circle of friends and family. Another option is to work with another training participant; we are available to help with that pairing process.
